These are two original 1945 US V-Mail letters send from Lieutenant Roland E. Smith, Headquarters, 83rd Division Artillery to Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Ginter, North East Knott Avenue, Portland 12, Oregon. Roland E. Smith signature in censor's field at upper left.

This letter is dated '12 April Germany' and begins, Dear Ruth, Lyell, D & D. This letter was send to Ronald Smith's sister Ednah Ruth Smith, her husband James Lyell Ginter and there two children Dian and Douglas. A.P.O. 83 indicates that the writer is in the 83rd Infantry Division in Beckum, Germany on this date.

 

This letter is dated '11 May 1945 Germany' and was also send to his sister's family. A.P.O. 83 indicates that the writer is in the 83rd Infantry Division in Vilshofen, Germany on this date.


These two V-Mail letters are from September 1945 and were also send to Roland's sister and her family. A.P.O. 83 indicates that the writer is in the 83rd Infantry Division in Passau, Germany during the occupation period. The one on the right, contains his original enveloppe.
